How the New is Born: Innovative Thinking in Art and Choreography
In this open lecture, part of the Dance Routes festival, we will delve into the topic of innovation – not only in choreography, but also as a way of perceiving and creating the world. We will talk about thinking outside the box, about art as a space for experimentation and about choreography as a language of contemporary sensibility.
The lecturer is Vladimir Angelov – artistic director of HELIOS, choreographer, teacher and researcher with many years of international experience.
Vladimir Angelov is a Bulgarian-American choreographer, author and CEO of Dance ICONS, Inc. – an international organization and professional network for choreographers based in Washington, USA.
Born in Plovdiv in 1966, he graduated from the National School of Dance Arts in Sofia and danced in the Arabesque Ballet while studying philosophy at Sofia University. In 1990, he went to the United States, where he earned a master’s degree in contemporary choreography from American University in Washington.
He has worked with institutions such as the Washington National Opera and has taught at universities and workshops in Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Russia.
